How to Choose a Wedding Venue in South Africa
A practical guide to picking the right venue — what to ask, what to budget for, and the questions couples forget until it is too late.
Choosing a venue is the single biggest decision in your wedding planning, and almost everything else follows from it — your date, your guest list, your budget, even your dress.
Start with your guest count
Before you fall in love with a venue, write down a realistic guest number. A venue that seats 80 will not stretch to 140, and one built for 300 will feel hollow with 60.
Understand what the price includes
South African venues quote very differently — some per person, some per day, some per event. Ask what is bundled: tables and chairs, sound, coordination, accommodation for the couple.
Ask about the season
Peak season pricing can differ by tens of thousands of rand. If your dates are flexible, an off-peak Saturday is the easiest saving available to you.
