These terms apply when you use www.ownyourwedding.co.za (“the platform”), run by Own Your Wedding (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the platform. How we handle personal information is covered in our privacy policy.
1. What we do
We help couples find and contact wedding venues, and help venues receive enquiries. We're a marketplace: we don't own or run venues, and we aren't a party to any booking. Quotes, deposits, contracts, cancellations and the event itself are between the couple and the venue.
At launch, we list venues in the Western Cape only.
2. Your account
- You must be 18 or older to create an account.
- Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
- Keep your password safe. You're responsible for activity on your account; tell us at info@ownyourwedding.co.za if you think someone else has used it.
- You can close your account at any time from Settings.
3. For couples
- Browsing, shortlisting and sending enquiries is free.
- When you send an enquiry, we pass your enquiry and contact details to that venue so it can reply.
- Venue information, including prices, capacity and availability, comes from the venues. We review listings before they go live, but we can't guarantee every detail is accurate or current. Confirm directly with the venue before you book.
- Venues decide whether and how to reply. We can't guarantee a response or availability.
4. For venues
Listing
Listing a venue is free. By listing, you confirm that:
- you own the venue or are authorised to market it;
- your listing, including pricing, is accurate and you'll keep it up to date;
- you have the rights to the photos and text you upload.
We review every listing before it's published. We may decline or remove a listing that breaks these terms or could mislead couples.
Your content
You keep ownership of the photos and text you upload. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to show them on the platform, and to use them to promote your listing and the platform (for example on social media and in our newsletter) while your listing is live.
Leads and credits
- Venues pay per lead, not per listing. A lead is an enquiry from a couple, and unlocking one uses one credit.
- During our launch period, unlocking leads is free. We'll email you before that changes.
- Credits are bought in packs through Paystack, at the prices shown when you buy, in South African rand. Credits don't expire.
- Credits that have been used aren't refundable. If you think a lead wasn't genuine (for example spam, a duplicate or a test), tell us. We'll review it and restore the credit if the lead wasn't genuine.
Couples' personal information
Use a couple's details only to respond to their enquiry and arrange their booking. Don't add them to mailing lists, send them marketing, or share or sell their details without their separate consent. You're responsible for handling their information lawfully under POPIA.
5. Acceptable use
Don't:
- post false or misleading listings or enquiries;
- use the platform to send spam or unsolicited marketing;
- harass or abuse anyone through messages;
- scrape, copy or resell listings or other data from the platform;
- try to break, overload or get around the platform's security;
- impersonate anyone or use someone else's account.
6. Our content
The platform's design, text, logos and software belong to us or the companies that license them to us. Please don't copy them without permission.
7. Other services
Google sign-in, Facebook sign-in, Google Maps and Paystack are provided by other companies under their own terms. We aren't responsible for those services.
8. Availability
We work to keep the platform running, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change, suspend or remove features.
9. Liability
As far as the law allows:
- the platform is provided “as is”;
- we aren't liable for what couples or venues do or fail to do, or for any booking or event arranged through the platform;
- we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss;
- for venues, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other law that can't be excluded, or our liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
10. Suspension and closure
We may suspend or close an account, or remove a listing, that breaks these terms. Where it's reasonable to, we'll tell you first. You can close your account at any time.
11. Changes to these terms
We'll update the date at the top when these terms change, and email account holders about significant changes. Continuing to use the platform after a change means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
