Hermanus is the Western Cape's best coastal wedding town — ninety minutes from Cape Town, with a twelve-kilometre cliff path above a bay where southern right whales calve close enough to see from the ceremony.

Coastal venues here fall into two groups: clifftop and ocean-facing spaces in and around town, and properties further along the bay toward Stanford and Gansbaai with more space and more wind. Both photograph beautifully, and both need a serious answer to the weather question — ask specifically what a ceremony looks like on a blowing day, because the answer separates the experienced venues from the rest. Timing is the other lever. Whale season runs roughly June to November and overlaps the off-season, so a July wedding here costs meaningfully less and comes with whales, at the price of needing a genuine indoor plan. Summer brings long evenings and warm light but books out early, and town accommodation is tight from December through January.
